Residents oppose homeless shelter
More than 400 people have signed a petition against plans to open a shelter for homeless people near their homes in Wolverhampton.
Focus Futures wants to close its hostel in Low Hill and build a new base on the site of the former Dan O'Connell pub, in Hurstbourne Crescent, East Park.
It would house up to 27 people, but neighbours have complained it would bring "the wrong sort" into the area.
Campaigners said the petition was collected in just four hours.
'Understandable' reaction
Wolverhampton City Council said no planning application had yet been received for the shelter, which would be aimed at homeless people aged between 16 and 25.
Focus Futures said it would meet residents to discuss their concerns.
In a statement, it added: "The initial reaction adopted by local residents is understandable, and not unexpected.
"However, we believe that single people in housing need should also have the right to access good quality affordable accommodation."
